Medical devices

Medical device means « any instrument, apparatus, appliance, material or other article, whether used alone or in combination, including the software necessary for its proper application, intended by the manufacturer to be used for human beings for the purpose of:

Þ diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of disease,

Þ diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, alleviation or compensation for an injury or handicap,

Þ investigation, replacement or modification of the anatomy or of a physiological process,

Þ control of conception,

and which does not achieve its principal intended action in or on the human body by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic means, but which may be assisted in its function by such means. »

Pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceutical means « any substance or combination of substances presented for treating or preventing disease in human beings or animals and any substance or combination of substances which may be administered to human beings or animals with a view to making a medical diagnosis or to restoring, correcting or modifying physiological functions in humans or in animals. »

Finished cosmetic products

Cosmetic means « any substance or mixture intended to be placed in contact with the external parts of the human body (epidermis, hair system, nails, lips and external genital organs) or with the teeth and the mucous membranes of the oral cavity with a view exclusively or mainly to cleaning them, perfuming them, changing their appearance, protecting them, keeping them in good condition or correcting body odors. »

Finished cosmetic product means « the cosmetic product in its final formulation, as placed on the market and made available to the final consumer, or its prototype. »
